Our life with these two precious babies--what an adventure!

Two Eighteen Month Olds!!

I can hardly believe we have two 18 month olds! Here they are with Dad this past Saturday:

The babies are so much fun these days. They love reading books--every morning, they say "book, book" and we pull books out one by one until we find the one each of them wants to read (and often that means we go through ALL of our books). They love pointing to the pictures in the books and having you tell them what they're pointing to--especially if the story is full of different kinds of animals. Alternatively, they are getting good and pointing out and saying different things they see on the page--like a ball, a train, a car, Burt and Ernie, that kind of thing.

I might call Jackson "Bubba" more often than I think I do--but one morning last week, Jackson was the first to wake up (which is what usually happens). But this particular morning, Addison was still sound asleep--so I took Jackson in to have his bottle and let Addison continue sleeping for a few minutes. I went in about 10 minutes later, and she popped up in her crib, looked over at Jackson's empty crib, and said, "Bubba? Bubba?!" We went and joined Bubba for a bottle right away.

The babies love elephants. But have you ever tried to make the sound an elephant makes? Let me tell you--it is hard. Elephants must be one of the hardest animal sounds to make (and you feel kind ridiculous trying). All of a sudden, Addison can make an elephant sound--she signs elephant and makes the sound--and she is really good at it. I'm not sure where she got it from (since none of us can make a sound that is even remotely like one an elephant makes)--but she is an expert elephant caller. We have a little zoo set that they love to play with, and all of the animals have babies. Well, Addison started pointing out the babies and signing and saying baby--then Jackson started pretending to feed the animals, making a "nom nom" sound while pushing their faces into the feeding trough. And Addison will give her animal bath toys a drink of water in the bathtub. It's fun to see them start to use their imaginations while they play.

Speaking of animals--the babies make so many animal sounds! Chickens say BOCK BOCK, sheep say BAA, cows say MOO, ducks say QUACK, dogs say WOOF, cats say MEOW, birds say TWEET, pigs SNORT (or say WEE WEE)--singing Old McDonald is so much fun these days!

Jackson has started saying "a ball" instead of "ball". So now it's a ball, a ball, a ball all of the time. He loves kicking, dribbling, and throwing balls. Addison started saying "soccer ball" every time she sees a ball--so from her, we hear socca ball, socca ball. These two, I tell you, are smart little chickens, and they are so active!

And they are growing--on the first day of their 18th month, their 18-month sized clothes started to not fit. You can see in the picture above that Addison's shirt is kind of tight--and Jackson's pants that day were a little bit too short.

We are saying quite a few new words: airplane (which at first sounded kind of like Abilene, and now sometimes sounds like happy), play (which is a distinctive two syllables, puh-LAY, and which Addison uses to announce that she's done with breakfast and ready to go PLAY), splash (LASH), all clean (cuh-LEAN). Addison says tickle, tickle, and both babies have started to "tickle" us back (which means that they kind of scratch our sides--close enough). Both say wee, wee, wee when looking at their toes (and like the commercial on TV featuring the pig that yells WEE, WEE).

We say our prayers at night before we hop into our cribs, and every night we ask Heavenly Father to bless all of our grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, and our baby cousin Audrey--and both babies say Audrey after I do. They both also say amen at the end. They are very sweet babies.

And, as all Mormon mommies know, 18 months old means one thing--the babies are old enough for Nursery! Nursery is a wonderful place where the babies get to play with other kids, interact with other adults, play with new toys, have snacks, sing songs, color pictures, have a wee Church lesson, and do all kinds of other fantastic things for two hours on Sunday. And there is a sweet girl who works in the Primary (for slightly older kids) who has offered to sit with us during Sacrament Meeting (the first hour) so that we can go to Nursery (the second and third hour). We've only tried the whole she-bang once, and the babies loved it. Hooray for Nursery!

Here are some pictures of the babies celebrating their year-and-a-half milestone. This is only the second time they've gotten their own cupcake (and rest assured, we had to go run around outside like maniacs after we ate these).

Birthday cupcakes--the babies have started loving M&Ms, so we obliged with the cupcake decorating (we work on our colors with mini M&Ms, which actually works out pretty well).

Half-birthday cupcakes!
